DESCRIPTION: We’re back with part two of our amazing interview with production designer Jim Bissell, who worked his magic on both “Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol” and “Rogue Nation.” This time we get into the finale of “Rogue Nation” (he says that it was always set in London, take that ship graveyard!), the record store (and how it switched from “Ghost Protocol” to “Rogue Nation”), and he shares stories from the production of “E.T.” and “The Rocketeer.” Plus, a little bit more about Brad Bird’s abandoned (for now!) “1906.” Released February 25th, 2022.
SHOW NOTES: As Jim describes in the interview, he created padded cobblestone on the ground for Cruise to fall onto in this scene from “Ghost Protocol”...
We also discuss the record store set from “Rogue Nation”...
Here’s the shot in Alan J. Pakula’s “The Parallax View” (top) that is referenced in “Rogue Nation” (bottom)...
And these two shots in “Rogue Nation” (left) are a reference to Sydney Pollack’s “Three Days of the Condor” (right)...
In the episode Jim tells a great story about the making of “E.T. The Extraterrestrial.” Here are some screen grabs from the sequence we discussed...
We also discuss Jim’s work on “The Rocketeer”...
